When I came to Germany

International Women Space organized a two-day conference in Berlin in October 2017. The speakers, including our CEO Kook-Nam Cho-Ruwwe, spoke about arriving in Germany, working and living here, and the political organizations.

"When I came to Germany": guest workers, contract workers and refugee women* from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s and from today reported on their experiences. Migrants* and refugee women*, who came here for different reasons and from different generations, are denied visibility in German society due to structural racism and sexism. On the occasions where migrant and refugee women are present, they are often reduced to the role of the faceless victim. We focus on the various forms of resistance of these women* against structural, institutional and everyday racism and sexism.

Kook-Nam Cho-Ruwwe's contribution deals with the hard-won law of residence and employment in June 1978.
