Will Equal Pay Day for female migrants * come on Never Again?

Berlin, March 17.03.2020th, XNUMX. Germany is great! On March 17th women * and men * will receive the same pay for the same work. Until then, women * compared to men * will work 77 days unpaid. For female migrants, the period is extended according to the migration gap. The figures are as if set in stone: The Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) already found a wage gap of around eleven percent (for foreign and German men *) and around 2008 percent (for foreign and German women *) in 20. In terms of gender equality on the labor market, Germany once again ranks among the top ranks in an international and EU country comparison.

Jobs in care work - as carers, cleaning staff, in catering or domestic workers are located in the low-wage sector and they are predominantly carried out by women with a migration background. Refugee women * hardly have a realistic chance of participating in the German labor market and their unclear prospects to stay make the situation even worse. Many women * are also forced to leave their families in their country of origin to work in Germany and to support them with this wage. The care work in the countries of origin is in turn distributed to other women * and, like poverty in old age, remains a matter for the women *.

No matter what training or university degree - migrant women * on the labor market are pushed into the area of care work because their qualifications are not or only partially recognized.

Numerous studies also show that people with a history of migration who were born and raised in Germany are discriminated against on the job market. It is well known that German names are clearly preferred in application processes. The Diversity Charter calls this “unconscious prejudice”. DaMigra calls this injustice “racist and sexist discrimination”.

“We cannot afford to do without important specialists. We now have to break open the sexist-racist structures in the authorities, on the labor market and in society in order to use the valuable resources of women * with migration and refugee backgrounds for the common good. We depend on the skills of these women *, ”said Dr. Delal Atmaca, CEO of DaMigra.

“Equal Pay and Equal Care for Migrant Women *” is an event within the framework of the Migrantinnen * march, which DaMigra has proclaimed to draw attention to the concerns of women * with refugee and migration backgrounds. Together with those affected, experts from science and trade unions, we discuss the hurdles migrants take on the labor market and what it takes to eliminate the problems and inequalities. Due to the safety precautions in the course of the "Corona" pandemic, the event will be postponed. A new date will be announced.
