"No, nothing is okay!"

A report on the first women's conference in Borna, Saxony, on November 26, 2022

Four multilingual workshops on topics related to women's health, discrimination and political commitment and an estimated 70 participants from different countries - you don't experience an event like this every day in Borna!

Under the motto "No, nothing is okay!" we organized a day-long women's conference in Borna in cooperation with Bon Courage eV. At the same time, four workshops with translation into Ukrainian, English, Persian and Arabic took place between 9 a.m. and 17 p.m.

Living in Germany as a migrant woman is challenging on many levels: Attending a language course, working or looking for a job, dealing with authorities and other bureaucratic tasks, looking after your own children, continuing your education and getting involved in society - all of this takes up a lot of time. In addition, many women are often exposed to structural discrimination in everyday life, which makes each of these tasks even more difficult. For these reasons, the workshops "Time Management" and "Time and Resources for Yourself" discussed how much time women with a migration background in Germany actually have for themselves and how stress can endanger their health. By teaching time management methods, women should be supported in organizing their time in such a way that they do not lose sight of themselves. In the "Racism and Discrimination" workshop, the participants dealt with the effects of having a name that is read as "non-German". Constellations in the room also made it clear on which levels (nationality, family, place of residence, age, etc.) social inequalities play a role in interpersonal relationships and can lead to exclusion.

We thank all women for the lively participation and Bon Courage eV for the great cooperation!
