Anti-racist demands against sexism grow on the tree in front of the Old Market in front of the Church of St. Nikolai

November 19.03.2021, XNUMX, Stralsund. On the occasion of the International Day against Racism (March 21st), DaMigra eV, umbrella association of migrant women’s organizations, and the Hanseatic City of Stralsund are setting a high-profile sign for anti-racist feminism and solidarity on March 19.03.2021, XNUMX. For this purpose, the tree in front of the old market / corner of Semlower Straße in front of the St. Nikolai church is decorated with the demands of refugee and migrant women * and women * from Stralsund who do not read German.

The social and political participation of women * with refugee and migration experience is often like a game of chance, the rules do not seem fair. Therefore the motto of this year's March campaign by DaMigra eV is: "What if co-determination wasn't a game of chance?". The women * wrote their demands on oversized playing cards.

“All people would be equal politically, economically and socially. Everyone would have the same chances and rights and we would all have the same starting conditions.” Reem Alabali-Radovan, Integration Commissioner of the state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, answers the title question of the motto on one of the oversized playing cards that are attached to the requirement tree.

Cornelia Schäfer, integration officer for the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, is also involved: "My goal for the future is that the concerns of women with refugee and migration experience are taken into account at all levels, socially and politically!".

Anja Isabelle Schmuck, Integration and Migration Officer of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund, actively supported the campaign: "With the diverse events as part of the nationwide campaign week, Stralsund is sending a clear signal against racism and other forms of exclusion. Stralsund stands for a tolerant and colorful coexistence - so that our Hanseatic city is, remains and will be a beautiful and safe home for all people living here. I am therefore happy to support this action by DaMigra eV, which wants to draw attention to discrimination and racism in society and mobilize against it.”

Above all, the demands tree and the oversized playing cards want to make it clear that diversity is a strength: “Each of us has a different ace up our sleeve. Every woman * has her own strength. We, self-organized migrants *, show solidarity with all those who stand up for more fairness and equal opportunities and we want to encourage everyone to do the same, ”explains Dr. Teresa Martínez Domínguez, location manager of DaMigra Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

“We, refugee and migrant women *, are also part of this society. Racism and sexism exclude us. We don't want to accept that - and women * in particular get more of it if we all stand together against women *, hatred and racism, ”adds Irina Fischer, employee of DaMigra.

The campaign takes place as part of the nationwide Migrantinnen * märz campaign by DaMigra eV, which is being carried out for the 5th time this year.

The migrant march
Between Women's * kampftag, Equal Pay Day and International Day Against Racism, DaMigra focuses particularly on the rights and demands of migrant women *. Together with many migrant women * self-organizations (MSO), DaMigra organizes nationwide creative events on the topics of political participation, protection against violence, the labor market, education and health.
This year we dedicate ourselves to the motto “What if co-determination wasn't a game of chance? What if we played with fair rules? " You can find more information about the migrant march at DaMigra on our homepage damigra.de.

The umbrella association of migrant organizations - DaMigra eV
DaMigra eV represents the interests of migrant women * self-organizations and their concerns and advocates equal opportunities, equal participation and the equality of women * with a migration history and refugee experience in Germany. DaMigra follows the approach of anti-racist feminism.

Note on gender-sensitive spelling: As an intersectional feminist thinking and acting umbrella organization by and for migrant women * in Germany, DaMigra eV uses a gender-sensitive spelling with asterisks (*). This should point beyond the two-sexes ("women" and "men") and symbolize the actual diversity of genders.
