Empathy knows no boundaries, solidarity is infinite and human rights are universal
The horrific developments in the armed conflict between the radical Islamist terrorist organization Hamas and the Israeli state affect us all deeply. We are deeply shocked and our thoughts and solidarity are with all affected civilians and their families in Israel, the Palestinian territories and worldwide.
We know that in wars and conflicts around the world, marginalized groups, children, women, LGBTQIA+ people and other minorities are the first and most particularly affected by the effects of a conflict. That will also be the case on both sides in this war. But from a feminist perspective, human rights are unconditional, universal and indivisible. For us, this means unequivocally condemning all forms of violence against civilians in the face of this armed conflict. No end in the world justifies the means. Especially in highly politicized geopolitical wars, we must insist more than ever on compliance with indivisible human rights and the implementation of international martial law.
Empathy, compassion and solidarity are endless. When we express solidarity, nothing diminishes our ability to have it for all affected groups. It is the civilian population of Israel who is paying the price for Hamas' attack and the civilian population of the Palestinian territories on whose backs Israel's military response is being carried out. Our solidarity lies with you.
