No anti-racism without intersectionality - for the protection of everyone!
press release
Today, on the International Day against Racism, we focus our attention in particular on supporting refugees in Germany: They have all fled war, persecution and violence, but they are affected by racism in different ways. However, offers of help and support for those seeking protection must not be a question of skin color or origin, gender identity, sexual orientation or age! Thus, only intersectional politics and civil society can protect the lives of all.
The invasion of Ukraine and the war that went with it continues to be one of the most discussed political events in this country. There are now more than one
1 million people have fled and 5 refugees are seeking protection in Germany. The willingness to help here in Germany is impressive. The people offer private accommodation or distribute food and drink at the train stations for the arriving refugees from Ukraine. The federal government spoke out in favor of far-reaching aid packages and uncomplicated recordings. DaMigra welcomes this commitment and is happy about the great willingness to help. But it is also important here: Listen to the people who come and respect their needs and wishes. The helpers should pay attention to paternalistic behavior. Not all kindly meant help is received as such by the people concerned.
At the same time, we always appeal, but especially today: with all willingness to help, we must also look to those who are neglected or ignored even in this humanitarian crisis situation. Those who are made "invisible" in this way. This includes the elderly and disabled in particular, but above all people who belong to minorities. They are non-Ukrainian citizens, Roma families, refugees from Afghanistan, Syria or Yemen, students from Nigeria and other African countries. You are all equally entitled to our solidarity, our empathy and our protection. This is not only required by humanity, but also by the Geneva Refugee Convention itself. There must be no class society among refugees and there must be no racism towards refugees: human rights are always and everywhere unconditional for EVERYONE!
A wide variety of alliances and alliances in Germany stand up for precisely those human rights. We cordially invite you and yourselves to work with us against all forms of racism. Always and everywhere!
DaMigra eV represents the interests of women migrant organizations and their concerns and advocates equal opportunities, equal participation and the equality of women with a history of migration and refugee experience in Germany. DaMigra follows the approach of anti-racist feminism.
