In the shadow of world events, minorities and women continue to be persecuted, arrested and murdered

The systematic oppression and discrimination of the Hazara in Afghanistan must not be forgotten!

Berlin, March 19.10.2022th, XNUMX. All eyes are currently on two international events: on the one hand, the illegal war of aggression in Ukraine, which has been shaking the country since February. On the other hand, the feminist and democratic movement in Iran, which has been bravely and bravely challenging the oppressive regime for a month now. In particular, support for the progressive forces in Iran is essential - but let's not forget what is happening elsewhere in the world.  It has now been more than a year since the Taliban's takeover of power inevitably changed Afghanistan and the reality of life for the Afghan people. For years, many civil society organizations have been warning of the human rights and humanitarian catastrophe that a Taliban takeover in Afghanistan would and has brought with it. Nevertheless, the necessary attention is missing.

In the past year, the Taliban have exercised their power with increasing brutality and ruthlessness -- and the Hazara are particularly targeting them. The Hazara are Afghanistan's largest religious and ethnic minority. They have been persecuted by the Taliban and the so-called Islamic State (IS) for decades. Even if the Taliban claim in talks with Western powers that they no longer oppress, exclude and persecute minorities and women: the reality is different.

As members of Shia Islam, the Hazara are considered infidels in the eyes of the Islamists. The fact that women have fought for more freedom among the Hazara also makes them a target for the Taliban and other Islamist terrorist groups in the country. One of the immediate reasons for a sharper focus on Afghanistan is the attack on the Kaj Education Center in Kabul at the end of September, in which 53 children from the Hazara minority died and many more were injured. Brave Hazara took to the streets the next day to protest the violence they were subjected to every day - and were violently clubbed by the Taliban. This, too, is further shocking evidence that the Taliban continue to persecute, torture and extrajudicially execute the Hazara.

We call on the federal government and civil society actors: Take a look and recognize the systematic discrimination and persecution of the Hazara and other ethnic and religious minorities! The federal government should immediately begin admission programs for those members of these minorities who are threatened with murder. These discriminated minorities also include a large number of women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community who fight for their human rights every day. It was only on Monday, October 17.10.2022th, 1000, that Federal Interior Minister Faeser and Foreign Minister Baerbock decided on a new federal admissions program agreed in the coalition agreement, through which around XNUMX Afghans could enter Germany every month. While this recording program is a good step in the right direction, but taking in 1000 people a month is a drop in the ocean. With an estimated population of 38 million, more than 2022 million people were already living in need in January 24,4 - this number has increased rapidly and will only continue to increase in view of the terror of the Taliban. According to other estimates, there are five to ten million Hazaras living in Afghanistan alone who are subjected to oppression, persecution, arrest and murder by the Taliban regime of terror on a daily basis.

We criticize the slow pace of work on the agreed Federal Humanitarian Admissions Program. Every day members of the Hazara are systematically persecuted and murdered by the Taliban in Afghanistan - they deserve our unconditional support and solidarity!
