About the courage to carry on – a film by DaMigra eV

On March 13.03.2023th, XNUMX we will present a documentary short film in the context of our Germany-wide campaign “Migrant Women March”. Two women with a history of flight or migration share their personal stories by presenting symbolic objects. These are associated with both discriminatory experiences and impressive successes and resilience.

The documentary film will be on March 13.03.2024th, 11 at 00:XNUMX a.m. on our website and our Youtube channel released. The film is preceded by a social media campaign. You can find teasers and other information material on our Instagram account @damigraev.

“The Courage to Carry On” traces the different paths of people with a migration background who try to gain a foothold in Germany, build a life and a social environment and become professionally successful. The film sheds light on the efforts of migrant women to participate professionally and socially, as well as the barriers and hurdles under which these efforts take place.

The focus of the film is explicitly on the path of two women into the professional and educational worlds of Germany as well as on their personal perspective on it. Using items they chose and brought with them, the women address structural hurdles such as discrimination and institutional exclusions. At the same time, despite these barriers, their successes, their personal beliefs and moments of happiness are highlighted. It is important to the women themselves to make their painful experiences visible, but at the same time to empower other women and educate the dominant society about the realities of their lives.

Therefore, the film aims to promote a deeper understanding of the complex connections between flight, migration and identity by emphasizing an intersectional perspective. In doing so, he illustrates how individual stories and experiences are inextricably linked to social, cultural and structural contexts.

Background information about the Migrant Women’s March:

These actions are intended to illustrate the resources that women with various forms of discrimination lose and the daily struggles they have to face. This year we want to use the Migrant Women's March as an opportunity to encourage their participation finally and really to make it a reality. It's time for EVERYONE to sit together at the big table of decision-makers. It's time for actual Power sharing, which gives agency back to people with less privilege. We address those in power, politics, the media, the labor market and alliances with a clear message: Slide over – we'll have a say!

You can find out more about the Migrant Women's March on our homepage.

DaMigra eV represents the interests of women migrant organizations and their concerns and advocates equal opportunities, equal participation and the equality of women with a history of migration and refugee experience in Germany. DaMigra follows the approach of anti-racist feminism.
