On International Women's Day: Fighting feminist means fighting together against the shift to the right!

Berlin, March 07.03.2024, 8. The state elections in Brandenburg, Thuringia and Saxony are getting closer and closer and the shift to the right is unmistakable. The social issues and injustices that support the AfD are clearly linked to feminist struggles. So what better reason than March XNUMXth to once again demand the intersectional perspective in these struggles?

With a view to the upcoming European elections in June and the state elections in September, our concern is growing: the upswing in right-wing discourse cannot be denied. The AfD has forecasts of over 30% in some cases and its polemical and populist rhetoric towards migrants and vulnerable groups such as refugees or the LQBTIQ+ community has long since become socially acceptable. Right-wing and racist agitation also go hand in hand with anti-feminist ideas. It is a central component of these ideologies and can be seen in the conservative image of the family, in the anti-gender logic, the homophobia and transphobia, and the restrictions on physical self-determination.

On International Women's Day we want to remember that the fight for a diverse, liberal democracy is always an intersectional, feminist fight. The acute social issues of our time that drive inequalities in society cannot be solved without a feminist perspective!

They particularly affect BIPoC women, including predominantly women with a refugee and migration history. Not only in unpaid care work, but also in the labor market when, despite good qualifications, they work under precarious conditions, part-time and with low pay. Or when, according to statistics from the Federal Employment Agency, “foreigners” are three times as likely to be unemployed as Germans. But the inequalities affect many other areas of life. This also applies to the housing market, which forces them into desperate realities because of unaffordable rents.

“Migrants and refugee women are always devalued. But solving the social question would mean instead standing up for good wages, good education, good economic policy and accessible health care in our own interests. But not to pave the way for right-wing and populist parties, as the government is doing!” warns Kook-Nam Cho-Ruwwe, CEO of DaMigra. e.V

Established parties are increasingly strengthening the agenda of right-wing populists by adopting right-wing vocabulary and taking up issues such as migration, flight or equality and giving them a negative charge. In doing so, they make the essentially inhumane positionings expressible. We last saw this with the inhumane CEAS draft. This is extremely dangerous for those affected, whose multiple burdens become more severe.

It is long overdue for the traffic light government to finally implement a fair policy to solve the social issue in our country! We demand: Set your own agenda here and now! And focuses on an intersectional, feminist perspective. This also means that we have a seat at the table and really have a say. There is room for everyone because: Diversity is our strength and solidarity is our power!

Get out on the streets – March 8th is every day!

DaMigra eV represents the interests of women migrant organizations and their concerns and advocates equal opportunities, equal participation and the equality of women with a history of migration and refugee experience in Germany. DaMigra follows the approach of anti-racist feminism.
