#SELF-DETERMINED!

Online, May 27, 2021, 10:00 a.m. - 13:00 p.m.

Migration and Gender Pay Gap.

Women * with a history of migration or flight in the corona pandemic

INVITATION

Digital round table on May 27, 2021, 10.00 a.m. - 13.00 p.m.

Dear interested parties,

it is not new: women * continue to be worse off than men in the labor market. The gender pay gap seems to be set in stone. This is all the more true for people who experience further discrimination in addition to discrimination based on gender: women * with a refugee or migration history are once again much worse off on the labor market than women * without a refugee or migration history.

The corona pandemic has exacerbated these inequalities. Even more: The seemingly natural way with which women * are pushed back into the traditional gender role points to a further dimension with fatal social consequences. We are in a backward movement that will throw back much of the progress made in gender equality policy if we don't take countermeasures.

Migration and gender pay gap - women * with refugee and migration history in the corona pandemic is therefore the topic of our digital round table on May 27, 2021, 10.00 a.m. - 13.00 p.m.

While some are currently working under high pressure, others have to fear for their livelihood due to lost work: Jobs in the low-wage sector, for example in nursing, cleaning, care for the elderly, catering or in the household sector are mostly carried out by women * with a migration background.

Together with guests from science, politics and practice, we want to pursue the following questions, among others:

What is the state of research on the migration-gender pay gap in Germany? What intersectional findings do we have with regard to wage discrimination? And what effects does the corona pandemic have on work in the low-wage sector and care work, which is mostly carried out by women * with a history of migration or refugee status?

What measures need to be taken to close both the gender and migration pay gap? Are there already possible gender equality models? And to what extent are workers' struggles, anti-racism and anti-sexism related?
